What is the Hopkinson Color Run?

The color run will be an amazing morning of family fun! It’s meant to celebrate Wellness, Happiness and Individuality; while helping raise funds for Hopkinson Elementary. Every dollar raised goes to supporting FOH. This money is spent on programs and resources for our school. Students, families and friends will make their way through the course while listening to music and being blasted with colored cornstarch.

When and where is the family color run?

Saturday, December 1st at Hopkinson Elementary field at 9:00am

How do I register?

We encourage everyone to register online at www.friendsofhopkinson.org

How can my family and friends sponsor me?

For our Color Run this year, we’re using an awesome web based fundraising system that makes it much easier for you to request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online. It’s fun, it’s easy, and people who use it typically raise twice as much as those who don’t!

What is included with my registration?

Student registration is $35.00 and includes: Hopkinson Color Run T-shirt, Bandana, Sunglasses, Tattoos, One Opportunity Ticket and a Finishers Medal.

Adult registration is $20.00 and includes a Hopkinson Color Run T-shirt. Children under 4 are free but they will not receive a T-shirt.

I want that sweet rainbow wig and crazy tutu! How do I earn the additional awesome prizes?

That’s easy… collect donations from family, friends, neighbors, etc. Click on the Prizes link above. All proceeds go back to Hopkinson Elementary.

For more information about sponsorship go to https://pledgestar.com/hopkinson/

How do I get my participant kit?

All kits will be distributed to your child’s class on Thursday, November 16th. FOH representatives will be on campus before and after school Friday, November 17th to answer any questions.

This sounds like fun. Do you need parent volunteers?

Yes! Parent volunteers are needed to squirt color on the runners as well as pass out finisher medals at the end. Please contact Connie Bambadji at cbambadji@gmail.com

Absolutely NOT! This is a 3K (1.86 miles), It’s not an Olympic event, take your time and enjoy. The Color Run is a fun, color crazy day with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, skip or cartwheel if you wish!

Is the powder safe?

Yes! The powder is food grade quality, 100% non-toxic, completely biodegradable, made in the USA, colored cornstarch. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our “trained color throwers” (parent volunteers) will make sure to aim low as you pass by. Some color runners opt to wear glasses or goggles and use a bandana or dust mask to cover their mouths.

How is the colored powder administered?

Smiling parent volunteers will be placed along the course and their main goal is to douse you in colorful powder (using a squirt bottle) to ensure that you look like you ran through a rainbow by the time you cross the finish line.

Can I run with my dog/cat/horse/turtle/guinea pig/hamster/fish/iguana?

No. Hopkinson Elementary is a pet free zone. You can show your pet your awesome t-shirt when you get home.

What should I wear to the Color Run?

We recommended you wear running shoes and the white Color Run t-shirt you received with your registration kit and other white items you don’t mind getting colorful.

Will the color run ruin clothes or running shoes?

The color does mostly wash out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. We strongly suggest you wash these items separately.

Will you have cleaning stations at the finish line?

With a good wipe down you aren’t 100% clean, but I’m sure your parents have seen worse. Think of the awesome pictures and enjoy the mess. But, just in case, we will offer baby wipes at the finish line.

How does the color affect the inside of cars?

It’s a good idea to bring a towel to sit on, or a change of clothes just in case.

Are cameras and phones safe in the color zones?

If you want to get shots right in the midst of the color, we suggest you place your phone in a zip lock bag but do this at your own risk.

What happens if there is bad weather?

This is California – our chances are slim – but a little rain won’t stop our fun day. This event is rain or shine and will make our colors shine brighter!

How to be an Awesome Color Runner

  1. Bring zip-loc bags.. Protect your cell phone in a bag.. Use one for your clothes if you plan on changing before driving home.
  2. Wear a bandana and glasses. These items are part of your registration kit.
  3. Dress the part and wear white. The more white you wear the more color you’ll see on your clothes.
  4. Bring a towel. Volunteers will have baby wipes at the end but a towel could be helpful too.
  5. Get there early. Participate in pre-race warm up fun with our DJ/MC.
  6. Take a before and after photo. We will have a back drop set up, bring your selfie stick, take a pre-race picture in your clean t- shirt and one after when you are a beautiful, colorful mess.
  7. Run with friends and family. This race is about making memories, having fun and celebrating Wellness, Happiness and Individuality. The finish line is a party – take pictures, dance, laugh, sing and enjoy yourself!

Make the memories last. After the run, spray your colorful clothing with vinegar until soaking wet. Dry in the sun, tumble dry in the dryer and bingo! – you have a cool souvenir.
