Hopkinson Havana Nights

What is it all about?

Q: What is Havana Nights ?

A: It is Hopkinson’s biggest fundraiser of the year. This year it will take place at The Grand on April 5th, 2-19. This ADULT evening features a silent auction, live auction, opportunity drawings, strolling dinner and dancing.

Q: Why did the venue change?

A: The venue DID NOT change because we were asked to never return to Old Ranch. Old Ranch double booked the date and FOH took the opportunity to change things up. New place, new theme, new surprises that can only happen at The Grand!

Q: My family or friends would like to donate, or I know a business that would like to donate to Havana Nights. Who should I contact?

A: Wonderful – we need auction items to make the evening a success! Please contact Co-Chairs Ryan-Marie Preuss, ryanmariepruess@gmail.com or Allison Isle, allisonsego@hotmail.com.

Q: What does FOH do with the money raised at Havana Nights

A: Though Hopkinson is a publicly supported institution, generous contributions are critical to keep our school thriving. Supporting Havana Nights allows Mrs. Garcia to address the ongoing, immediate needs of the school. The money raised has provided for: Media Center Teacher and Aide, School-wide classroom furniture, Staff Development Days, on-going Facility and Technology Improvements, Scholarships for Outdoor Science School, Chromebooks & Dell computer carts, SMART boards, grade level grants and more. Without the money raised, The FOH board, parents, teachers and our principal, Mrs. Garcia, will have to make tough decisions about what programs FOH can afford to support.

Q: Will Havana Nights have assigned tables with a sit down dinner?

A: Nope! This year we will have a “strolling dinner,” with lots of food options to accommodate most food allergies/sensitivities. There will be sit down tables and high top tables. Feel free to land anywhere you’d like. We will have presale VIP lounges, each accommodate 10 people and include bottle service. The lounges will be auctioned off before the event date online.

Q: Unfortunately, I cannot make it that night, is there some other way I can help?

A: Yes! You can donate a small or large item to the auction or become a monetary sponsor.

We also welcome any volunteers willing to donate their time to the planning process. Please contact the Havana Nights Committee Chairpersons for more information. NEW THIS YEAR—some of the auction items will be online available for everyone, whether attending the event or not, to bid on!

Q: Who organizes Havana Nights?

A: The event is sponsored by the Friends of Hopkinson (FOH). More specifically, dozens of Hopkinson parent volunteers begin working together months in advance to make this incredible evening a success. Contact the Havana Nights Committee Chairpersons to see how you can help – Allison Isle, allisonsego@hotmail.com and/or Ryan-Marie Preuss, ryanmariepreuss@gmail.com

Q: Who attends Havana Nights?

A: Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of students along with Staff, Faculty, and any other individuals invested in the education provided by Hopkinson Elementary School.

Q: My family or friends would like to donate, or I know a business that would like to donate to Havana Nights.  Who should I contact?

A: Wonderful – we need auction items to make the evening a success! NO donation is too small. Please contact Allison Isle, allisonsego@hotmail.com and/or

Ryan-Marie Preuss, ryanmariepreuss@gmail.com

Q: Why should I go to Havana Nights?

A: Though Hopkinson Elementary is a publicly supported institution, generous contributions are critical to keep our school thriving. Supporting Hukilau allows Mrs. Garcia to address the ongoing, immediate needs of the school.

Also, it’s a great way to connect with friends and other school families in a casual atmosphere.

Q: How does FOH spend the money raised at Havana Nights?

A: The money raised this evening is vital to our school and has/will provide for: Media Center Teacher and Aide, School-wide classroom furniture, Staff Development Days, on-going Facility and Technology Improvements, Scholarships for Outdoor Science School, iPads & iPad carts, Chromebooks & Dell computer carts, workroom copy machine, the Accelerated Reading program, SMART boards, Lunch Benches, iPad Lab furniture, Media Center Tables, grade level grants and more.

Q: What happens if we don’t have Havana Nights?

A: Unfortunately, the funds received by the state do not cover the staff, technology, resources and many supplemental programs offered at Hopkinson. Without the money raised the night of the Hukilau, The Friends of Hopkinson board, parents, teachers and our principal, Mrs. Garcia, will have to make tough decisions about what programs the FOH can afford to support.

Q: I don’t know very many people at Hopkinson yet. Will I have fun at Havana Nights?

A: You will have a great time; it’s a great place to meet other parents and family members. The Havana Nights team plans everything so that parents can have the best experience possible. A night out, without the kids, is a treat in itself!
